Abstract

The study was on hospital care cost analysis of kidney transplantation in patients with end stage renal disease. The purpose of this study was to analyze the total hospital care cost in the provider perspective view, at Ramathibodi Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand. This study was a retrospective and descriptive research. The data were collected in fiscal year 2009 by using data recording forms in the provider perspective view and analyzed by using Microsoft Excel. The results showed that the total cost was 5,436,576.64 baht in 14 patients (12 males, and 2 females) comparison Routine Service Cost (RSC) of 1,598,062.90 baht (29.39%), and Medical Care Cost (MCC) of 3,665,310.95 baht (67.42%) and the last cost was Capital Cost (CC) of 173,202.79 baht (2.97%). The comparison of the ratio (RSC: MCC: CC) was 9.23: 21.16: 1. When comparing the treatment cost of patients who had kidney transplantation under Universal Coverage, it was found that the Hospital Collected 71.4% less money from the Universal Coverage System than the cost incurred to the Hospital.

In conclusion, the administrators of Ramathibodi Hospital should use this information as a guideline to claim more money from the Universal Coverage System to reduce the financial burden the hospital is bearing.
