Assessment of the Personnel's Health Status and Health Risk Problems at Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital in 2008

Abstract

Due to great concern over the personnel’s health and health risks, the Faculty has approved of the annual physical check-up policy. This leads to the present cross-sectional study which was designed and conducted in 2008 to assess the personnel’s health status and health risk problems. The instruments of this study are the questionnaire and the results from physical check-up, screening, and health risk checking of the personnel. A total of 2,712 persons (42.47%) had the annual check-up, but 3,060 persons (47.9%) responded the questionnaire. A number of problems found were 1) 452 persons (18%) over weigh, 658 persons (26.2%) obese; 2) 847 persons (34.9%) abdominal obesity, 223 persons (8.2%) metabolic syndrome; 3) 321 persons (12.8%) anemia; 4) 360 persons (21.1%) high cholesterol, 282 persons (17.5%) high triglyceride, 434 persons (27.5%) low HDL, 883 persons (55.9%) high LDL; 5) 67 persons (4.6%) high blood sugar; 6) 124 persons (5.1%) hypertension; 7) Over weigh, abdominal obesity, high cholesterol, hypertension found more in the group of laborers than other professional groups, and anemia found most in the groups of nurse and PNs; 8) 15 persons (4.5%) abnormal mammogram; 9) 653 persons (24.1%) the risk for cardiovascular disease about 1 - 5% in 10 years; 10) 1,963 persons (64.3%) never receiving HBV; 11) 154 persons (5.1%) smoking, 585 persons (19.1%) drinking alcohol, 105 persons (3.4%) smoking and drinking alcohol; 12) consumption of sweet , salty and fatty diets by most personnel; 13) 2,479 persons (81.3%) performing moderate to heavy exercise, 335 persons (11%) performing less than 10 minutes exercise.
