Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between innate body elements (innate Dhātu Chao Ruean, IDCR)
and characteristics of patients with hypertension.
Methods: All participants were hypertensive patients who visited Ayurved Clinic of Applied Thai Traditional
Medicine, Siriraj Hospital between August 2015 and February 2016. Questionnaires, including general information,
were answered by the participants. IDCR were calculated according to Khamphi Prathomchinda using the
date of birth.
Results: Among 374 participants, most falls in the age group of over 60 years old (61.76%). There were female
more than male (71.9%). IDCR calculation showed high proportion of fire element (31%). There was no relationship
between IDCR and gender or mean BMI (p=0.637 and p=0.601, respectively). Mean age of participants with earth
and fire elements were significantly difference (p = 0.029). However, when using Thai traditional medicine age group
classification (Ayu Samutthan), there was no difference between them (p=0.496). Furthermore, Prathet Samutthan
(current living area) showed no relationship with IDCR (p > 0.05).
Conclusion: Most patients with hypertension had fire element. The results from this study can be used as
a preliminary data for future study of the relationship between hypertension and other influencing factors of the
disease in Thai traditional medicine.
