Adolescent and Youths Sexually Transmitted Infections: Current Trends and Interesting Associated Factors

Abstract
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have emerged as a significant public health concern in our country. The incidence of STIs among adolescents and youths has been steadily increasing, primarily due to engaging in unprotected
sexual activities. In order to effectively address and mitigate these issues, it is crucial to comprehend the various factors associated with risky sexual behaviors among adolescents and youths. Factors such as adolescent growth and development, cognitive and brain development during this phase, history of adverse childhood events, sleep problems, family background, and the influence of society play roles in shaping their sexual behaviors. In today's digital society, individuals have easy access to social media, applications, and various sources of information related to sexual issues. These can include pornography videos, dating applications, cybersex, substances, chemsex, and more. As the secular trend in puberty continues, with adolescents experiencing an earlier onset of sexual maturation, several factors contribute to an increase risk of sexual behavior among these age groups. The decrease in quality family time, limitations in the monitoring system, and the emergence of imitating behaviors among adolescents and youths, all play a role in exacerbating this risk. In this article, authors review situation of STIs among adolescents and youths, factors related with sexual risk behaviors among adolescents and youths, and upcoming trends of risky behaviors contributing to have STIs among adolescents and youths, based on current evidence base.
