Abstract

Labor pain is a process caused by uterine contractions, stretching of pelvic muscles, and the descent of the fetal presenting part. Inappropriate pain management can negatively affect the health of the mother and fetus, the labor process, and birth outcomes. If a pregnant woman is able to cope appropriately with labor pain and knows how to manage it effectively, it can lead to positive birth outcomes, ensure fetal safety, and provide a positive childbirth experience. Currently, there are various options for pain relief techniques in the delivery room, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, as well as interdisciplinary approaches to pain management. Midwives, who are in close contact with and provide continuous care for pregnant women during labor, play a crucial role in this process. They are responsible for performing comprehensive assessments, providing accurate and complete knowledge and guidance on pain relief, delivering holistic and standardized nursing care, continuously monitoring and evaluating outcomes, and offering individualized pain relief techniques suitable for each woman. Collaborative care planning between the healthcare team and the mother enables effective pain management during labor, ensuring a smooth delivery and a positive childbirth experience.
