In this quasi-experimental research study, we used the systematic study process to determine the relationship between risk behaviors for muscle aches at work and shoulder disorders. We also aimed to develop alternatives and new innovations to prevent further injury. The purpose of this research was to measure the development of an innovative lifted charcoal stove innovation at a buffet shop in Muang Si Sa Ket Municipality. In the study, we purposively selected 10 subjects who worked at the buffet shop. The instruments we used included an Interview form, Standardized-Nordic-questionnaire, NIOSH Lifting Equation Scoring Sheet, and innovative lifting charcoal stove. Content validity and reliability of the machine (Reliability) in terms of the behavior and abnormalities in the shoulder area were 0.89 and 0.87, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square correlation.
The results showed that: 40% of the respondents had experienced muscle pain in the past month; 100% had taken painkillers, 90% had ever seen doctors for their muscle pain (?), and 90% reported that muscle pain had compelled them to stop work. Risk behavior of muscle aches in work behaviors with respect to symptoms of shoulder area disorders is high risk level (2.36±0.49). Evaluations by the Standardized Nordic Questionnaire showed that 100% had shoulder pain. Evaluation results for lifting work with the NIOSH Lifting Equation Scoring Sheet found that workers were at a moderate risk level. There was a strong correlation between risk behaviors for muscle aches and work with abnormal shoulder area (P-value = 0.012). Evaluation results for lifting work with the NIOSH Lifting Equation Scoring Sheet after development of the innovation lifting charcoal stove found that the risk was low, and now at a safe level.
