Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the components of the utilization of the internet by the elderly to gain health information. A Quantitative research method was used with a simple random sample of 410 elderly from a community in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The questionnaire asking about the behaviors and opinions on utilization of Internet to gain health information with reliability of 0.78 was used to collect the data. Exploratory factor analysis used the Principal Components Method (PCM) and rotated the components with Orthogonal rotation using the Varimax method.

The results of this research found that: factor analysis for the use of the internet by the elderly to gain health information by Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy (KMO) was 0.87 while the Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity Chi-Square=3315.41. Four factors were extracted with Eigenvalues between 1.21 and 5.81. Cumulative variance was 62.41%. The factors were grouped and categorized from variables concerning the use of the Internet of the elderly, and included (1) attitudes of internet and wellness information use, with 8 variables, (2) education and internet experience of elderly, with 4 variables, (3) quality and quantity of wellness information on the internet, with 3 variables, and (4) age and internet literacy of elderly, with 2 variables. These factors can be used as a guide for education and learning for the elderly to use the internet technology to gain health information.
