Incidence of Work-related Injury of Professional Nurses in Phayao Hospital, Phayao

Abstract
Nursing is not only a hard task, but nurses must also face hustle and stress all the time. Some nurses are exposed to risk factors, both in terms of an unsafe environment and working conditions that can cause illness and injury while at work. This study aimed to examine incidence and factors related to occupational injuries among 335 professional nurses in Phayao Hospital, Phayao province. Data were collected from December 2016 to January 2017 and analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and multiple logistic regression. The results revealed that 35.8% of those who suffered from work-related injuries in the last 3 months had suffered mostly minor injuries. Factors that were associated with work-related injuries were age (OR=4.10, 95%CI=2.10-8.10 p<.001) shift work (OR=1.95, 95%CI=0.99-3.82, p =.051) and unsafe working conditions, including the use of needles (OR=2.14, 95%CI=1.23-3.72, p =.007) and clipper silk (OR=0.38, 95%CI=0.17-0.49, p =.019).
