The Effect of Health Promotion Program of Academic Staffs with Risk of Hypertension

Abstract

          From annual health checkup of Princess of Naradhiwas University academic staff, they were found in the high risk of hypertension rate. This quasi-experimental research aimed to investigate the effect of health promotion programon Princess of Naradhiwas University academic staffwho have risk hypertension.The specific selected subjects were 30 academic staff of Princess of Naradhiwas University who has risk hypertension. Research tool is health promotion program and data were collected using personal health questionnaire, health promotion questionnaire, hospital health checkup data (Body Mass Index, waistline, systolic and diastolic blood pressure),and hypertension disease and self-health care pre-test. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The study found that an average score of knowledge on hypertension and prevention after receiving health promotion program is significantly higher than before (t= -4.06 p<.05). Average score of health behavioral change after receiving health promotion program is significantly higher than before (t= -2.29, p<.05)  Systolic blood pressure after receiving health promotion program is significantly lower than before. (t= 3.58, p<.05). The finding suggests that anybody who has risk hypertension should be encouraged to join health promotion program as well as following up the behavioral changes appropriately and consecutively, leading them to be healthier and having better life.
