Abstract

This research aimed to investigate depression in the working-age population in Lampang province and to find out the factors associated with depression among the working-age population including personal factors, job characteristics, and family relationships. A simples random sampling technique was used to recruit 150 working-age people who worked for at least one year and lived in Ngao district, Lampang province. Data collection instruments inclided a questionnaire on included personal data, working conditions, family and relationship, and the depression assessment (9Q). We analyzed the data using the SPSS program to analyze the frequency, percentage, and logistic regression analysis. Factors affecting depression were family types (ORadj=1.67, 95%CI=1.11-8.27), marital status (ORadj.=5.57, 95%CI=1.72-18.65), family relationships (ORadj.=3.92, 95%CI=1.03-14.93), and exercise (ORadj.=.36, 95%CI=.14-.89). Therefore, the continuous screening for working-age depression must be conducted in the community to prevent depression and the severity of depression that can lead to suicide. Health promotion activities for stress management, exercise, and family relationships should be organized.
