Nursing Practice Guidelines According to Patient Safety Standards

Abstract

          ความปลอดภัยของผู้ป่วยเป็นหัวใจสำคัญของคุณภาพบริการทางสุขภาพที่พึงปรารถนาสำหรับผู้ป่วย ครอบครัว และบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ทุกฝ่าย การพัฒนาคุณภาพการพยาบาลให้มีมาตรฐานอย่างต่อเนื่องนั้น จำเป็นต้องมีการพัฒนาอย่างเป็นระบบและมีทิศทางที่ชัดเจน การมุ่งประเด็นไปที่ความปลอดภัยของผู้ป่วย นอกจากจะเป็นการเพิ่มความเชื่อมั่นให้แก่ผู้ป่วยที่มารับบริการว่าจะได้รับการดูแลรักษาพยาบาลที่ดีที่สุดตามมาตรฐานและจริยธรรมแห่งวิชาชีพเพื่อให้ผู้ป่วยได้รับความปลอดภัย ไม่เกิดภาวะแทรกซ้อน หรือได้รับอันตรายใดๆแล้ว ยังเป็นการยืนยันถึงคุณภาพงานในวิชาชีพการพยาบาลอีกด้วย การปฏิบัติงานของพยาบาลควรยึดหลักมาตรฐานความปลอดภัยของผู้ป่วย โดยมาตรฐานความปลอดภัยนั้นมีหลากหลายประเด็น ในบทความนี้จะมุ่งไปที่ patient safety goals: SIMPLE ของสถาบันรับรองคุณภาพสถานพยาบาล (สรพ.) ที่มุ่งประเด็นเกี่ยวกับการผ่าตัดที่ปลอดภัย  การป้องกันและควบคุมการติดเชื้อ  การให้ยาและเลือดที่ปลอดภัย กระบวนการรักษาพยาบาลที่ปลอดภัย การดูแลอุปกรณ์สายและท่อต่างๆ ที่สอดใส่เข้าไปในร่างการผู้ป่วย และการตอบสนองภาวะวิกฤติ ซึ่งเป็นมาตรการที่สำคัญ มีแนวทางการปฏิบัติที่ดี เป็นที่ยอมรับของวงการแพทย์ กระทรวงสาธารณสุข องค์การอนามัยโลก และองค์กรมาตรฐานระดับนานาชาติ หากพยาบาลนำแนวทางการปฏิบัติไปประยุกต์ใช้ในหน่วยงานตามบริบทที่เหมาะสม ย่อมเกิดผลลัพธ์สูงสุดทางการพยาบาล ทั้งด้านความปลอดภัยของผู้ป่วย ความสุขสบาย ความพึงพอใจ ตลอดจนการมีความรู้ที่สามารถดูแลตนเองได้

Nursing Practice Guidelines According to Patient Safety Standards

          Patient safety is paramount in order to ensure the desired quality of healthcare services for patient, family and healthcare professionals. For nursing quality improvement to result in continual standardization, it must be systematically conducted with a clear direction. Focusing on patient safety not only enhances patient trust in the services rendered with the highest nursing care standards and professional code of ethics to ensure patient safety, recuperating from illness without any complications or harm, but also reaffirms the quality of professional nursing practice. Therefore, nursing practice should uphold the standardized patient safety goals. Despite various models of the patient safety goals, this article focuses on the Thai National Patient Safety Goals: SIMPLE issued by the Healthcare Accreditation Institute (HAI) that addresses the six goals of safe surgery, infection control, medication & blood safety, patient care processes, line, tube & catheter, and emergency response. This model of patient safety goals is remarkable with practice guidelines that are well accepted by every healthcare professional organization in Thailand, the Ministry of Public Health Thailand, the World Health Organization and an international standards organization. When nurses apply these guidelines appropriately within the context of their practice, the nursing care outcomes can be more effective. These outcomes include the patient’s safety, patient’s comfort and satisfaction with the healthcare services, as well as the patient’s ability to apply the knowledge to perform his/her self-care.
