Health Care Management in Temporary Community Shelters: The Disaster Nurse’s Role

Abstract

        The disaster nurse plays a crucial role in disaster management in every stage from the disaster preparedness, disaster response, and recovery phase, especially for those made homeless during the emergency phase to reduce the disaster risk and enhance the disaster response effectively. The nurse shall be the leader of the relief team to develop temporary community shelters. Also, to prepare the community in aiding those affected by homelessness. This primarily relieves the distress for those effected, rapidly restoring their safety and wellbeing, and thus maintaining their human dignity as per the humanitarian chapter and minimal standards in disaster response.
