Stress and Effect of Stress on Family Members with a Relative with First- Episode Schizophrenia: The Nursing Role

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder and chronic disease caused by brain disorder and the most common disease in patients admitted to psychiatric hospital. Schizophrenia is a chronic disease caused by a disorder causing the brain to display debilitating symptoms. First-episode schizophrenia often occurs among those in their late teens or early adulthood. Symptoms start to worsen or come on suddenly. Families with individuals with schizophrenia who have a first-episode are greatly affected, experiencing stress and difficulties in caring for the patients. Effects on family members include physical and mental health problems. Therefore, psychiatric nurses provide care to family members with a relative with first-episode schizophrenia. This helps them to understand the caring process for schizophrenia patients with the first-order illness. There is a need for proper self-care guidelines to prevent the effects of first-time schizophrenia care. Therefore, family members can care for patients appropriately and care for their own well-being, the family and schizophrenic patients will have a good quality of life. This article discusses the issues related to stress and effect of stress on family members with a relative with first-schizophrenia episodes and the nursing role.
