Abstract

Nail toxicities are induced by chemotherapy in women with breast cancer, which not only creates discomfort for patients but also results in suffering and pain, limiting the activities of daily life (ADL). This article aims to analyze the issues related to nail toxicities in women with breast cancer. The Symptom Management Model developed by Dodd et al. was applied, which includes three main concepts including: 1) symptom experience, 2) symptom management strategies and 3) outcome.         The outcome of management was functioning status, which was measured using the National Cancer Institute Common Toxicity Criteria [NCI-CTC] version 3. The patient in the case study was level one. Therefore, nurses take a vital role in protecting and managing nail toxicities in women with breast cancer in order to reduce inflammation and increase satisfaction with their body image and nail cosmetics,      as well as enable them to better perform ADL.
