Abstract

Strokes constitute one of the world's most serious public health problems. It is more common and is the leading cause of death in the elderly population. Strokes can have life-altering results; even after being treated many disabilities persist. There are different kinds of disabilities that can result from a stroke such as problems with thought, memory recollection, decision making, speech, ability to perform daily tasks, personality changes and emotional disturbances.  The nursing care of stroke patients, especially of the elderly, is a long-term, ongoing role that may require skill, knowledge and understanding.

This study focused on elderly stroke patients in the recovery phase who were staying in the Elderly Health Care Center of the Thai Red Cross Society, and explored and developed quality holistic nursing care based on nursing process principles leading to good clinical and  excellent clinical outcomes.
