Validation of the screening questionnaire for predicting Periodontitis in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Abstract

Periodontal treatment in Diabetes patient is important to reduce teeth loss and ensure good quality of life. Diagnostic of Periodontitis in accordance with gold standard method requires a specialist and specialized tools. Therefore, this study aims to investigate a validity to investigate a validity of the screening questionnaire for predicting periodontitis in type 2 Diabetes (DM type 2). This was a diagnostic test study. General population was diabetes type 2 who was got a routine oral examination at dental department Udonthani hospital between July 2017 and June 2018. Sample size was 138. The gold standard oral examination were used. Descriptive statistics and analytical statistics were performed to analyze factors associated and the validity of the questionnaire.

Result shown that the prevalence of periodontitis was 40.6 percent. At cut point score 2 of 7 questions, sensitivity and specification were 95.9% and 45.1%, the accuracy of the prediction of 85.4% (AUC=0.85, 95% CI 0.79, 0.92). But when analyzed only 4 associated significant questions. Sensitivity and specification were 92.9% and 32.9%, the accuracy of the prediction of 88.4% (AUC=0.88, 95% CI 0.83, 0.94).

Conclusion: The both screening questionnaires (7 or 4 questions) have suitable validity to predict periodontitis in patients with DM type 2.
