Knowledge and Attitude about Postpartum breast feeding only for six months at Postpartum ward, Burirum Hospital

Abstract

This descriptive research aims to study about knowledge and attitude of postpartum breast   feeding single only for long six months at Postpartum ward in Buriram Hospital. The sample was 181 normal labour postpartum, calculated from the Krejcie & Morgan table. Tool was questionnaire        consisted 1) general information 2) knowledge about breast feeding (15 items) and 3) attitude for breast feeding at least 6 months (17 items). Content validity were 0.86 and 0.82, respectively, with reliability were 0.80 and 0.83, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics; frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. To analyze the relationships of variables studied using Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient.

The research found that knowledge of normal labour postpartum mothers with breast-fed. sort descending;. 1) support for breastfeeding, 2) creating mechanisms and lactation benefits of breastfeeding for babies and 3) practice of breastfeeding. The attitude of postpartum mothers to encourage breast  feeding postpartum mothers found that attitude in promoting breastfeeding; In descending order: 1) the   adventage of breastfeeding on the economy and society 2) ensuring the mother in breastfeeding and   3) the benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and infants. The relationship between knowledge and the attitude of postpartum mothers to encourage breastfeeding showed no correlation. Suggestions for the next step to improving for healthy space is supposed to encourage the community to manage the area, sources, knowledge of the factors that will make the breastfeeding practice longer and longer, i.e. there  relatives support postpartum breast-fed, help mother realized about the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as provide sources of assistance in breast-fed in the community.
