Factors affective the life quality of the elderly in Nongprong village, I-san sub-district, Mueang district, Buriram province

Abstract

           The objectives of this research were to study the quality of life of the elderly and to study factors influencing the quality of life of the elderly. The sample consisted of 103 elderly people aged 60 years old and over living in Nongprong village, I-san Sub-district, Mueang District, Buriram Province. The questionnaire and in-depth interview was used as the research instrument collected data between August to October, 2018. The question consisted of five parts: intellectual, physical, psychological,  social, and environmental aspects. The content validity index was 0.84 and reliability by Cronbach's  Alpha Coefficient was 0.84 The statistics used for the analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation and multiple linear regression with a statistical significance level of 0.05.

           The results of this study indicated as follows; Overall quality of life of the elderly was at the highest level with a mean score of 4.60 (SD 0.58) When individual aspects were considered, an aspect with the highest mean score was social aspect with a mean score of 4.72 (SD 0.53), followed by psychological aspect with a mean score of 4.64 (SD 0.63) and environmental aspect with a mean score of 4.58 (SD 0.50). For individual aspects of the quality of life of the elderly, aspects with the high levels scores were physical aspect and intellectual aspect (mean 4.48 and 4.42 respectively). Underlying diseases, Education level and income per month were factors that influencing the quality of life of the elderly living in Nongprong village, I-san Sub-district, Mueang District, Buriram Province with statistically significant. Age, gender, marital status, occupation, community membership, residence, alcohol drinking, smoking and physical activity did not influence the quality of life of the elderly.
