Factors Affecting Happiness of Nursing Students, School of Nursing Metharath University to Active Learning Management

Abstract

               The objective of this descriptive research design was to study 1) the happiness of nursing students to active learning management 2) factors affecting happiness 3) how students cope when they are    unhappy. The sample consisted of 403 the first to fourth year nursing students, School of Nursing Metharath University. The instrument used to collect data was the happiness questionnaire of nursing students for active learning management, consisted of general information questionnaire, Thai Happiness Indicators short version 15 items (THI - 15); the standard edition of the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, Questionnaire on how to deal with unhappiness, (25 items), and a 25 item questionnaire on happiness in active learning. According to the contents of 3 experts, the confidence value of the THI – 15, questionnaire on how to deal with unhappiness, the happiness scale in active learning was 0.81, 0.80, 0.81, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and One way ANOVA.

               Results: showed that the mean happiness score in nursing students was in the fair level (mean = 32.17, SD = 4.11) and the highest mean score found in first year nursing students (mean = 33.35, SD = 4.18, good level). The mean happiness score of 4^th year students was in the moderate level (mean = 33.02, SD = 3.91). The mean happiness score was fair level, seen in the 2^nd and 3^rd year students (mean = 31.51, SD = 4.01 and mean = 31.10, SD = 4.29 respectively). Factors affecting happiness in active learning    management in overall had mean score at a high level (mean = 4.18, SD = 0.50). The internal factors had mean score at a high level (mean = 4.24, SD = 0.62) with the aspect of health status had the highest mean score (mean = 4.32, SD = 0.82). For external factors had mean score at a high level (mean = 4.11, SD = 0.63) with the family aspect had highest mean score (mean = 4.49, SD = 0.71). Top three methods to deal with unhappiness were accepted themselves, positive thinking, and friends as consultants.
