Expansion of the City VS. Reduction of Durian Plantation in Nonthaburi Province

Abstract

             This article has the purpose to present that even though Nonthaburi Province is the area supporting expansion of the city because Nonthaburi Province has location to be adjacent to Bangkok Metropolis, as well as development of transporting routes, land price which is cheaper than the land price in the city, as well as there is better environment, so there is development of land for being residential area in nearby area of Bangkok. Therefore, there is connecting between city and city, city and rural area. Several areas become important suburban area of Bangkok Metropolis;

          Expansion of the city is not the main cause that affect the reduction of durian plantation of Nonthaburi Province, but flood and brine. The 2011 flood, slimmed durian plantation down to 43 rai.

          At present durian of Nonthaburi Province does not only have the meaning of products as fruit for consuming, but also a cultural and geographical identity of Nonthaburi Province. In addition, its price has been raised tremendously due to its scarcity and excellent quality. Durian of Nonthaburi Province has the new meaning that it is the "plant which should be preserved", which required conservation, rehabilitation and expansion of scales of durian plantation.
