Factors Affecting on The Adaptability Skills in Nursing Practicum of Nursing Students, Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University

Abstract

The aim of this research was to identify the best predictor variable and to develop a predictive equation for adaptability skills in nursing practicum among nursing students. A sample consisted of 116 nursing students who had completed practical studies. The research instruments included the Adaptability Scale, which consisted of 1) Mental well-being, 2) Emotional Intelligence, 3) Self-Esteem, 4) Parenting, and 5) Academic Self-Efficacy subscales. These were 5-point rating scales. The data was analyzed by Pearson product moment correlation coefficient, multiple correlation coefficients (R) using Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis technique.

The results revealed that 1) The adaptability skills in nursing practicum, overall, were rated at a high level (x̅ = 4.48). The average scores for each aspect were as follows: learning (x̅ = 4.41), instructors (x̅ = 4.56), social interactions (x̅ = 4.57), and the environment (x̅ = 4.37) 2) All variables are related to adaptive skills in nursing practice. Moderate to high level of positivity Statistically significant at the .01 level, with a correlation coefficient between 0.437 – 0.756, and 3) The analysis of Stepwise multiple regression analysis of factors affecting on Adaptability skills in nursing practicum of nursing students was at the level of significance of .05 with 4 predictors; Academic Self-Efficacy (X5), Mental well-being (X1), Parenting (X4), and Self-Esteem (X3) affected on Adaptability skills in nursing practicum of nursing students with the Multiple correlation coefficient (R) was at 0.836 and the predictive power was at 66.90 percent, a standard error of prediction was at 0.250.
