Teaching Model Based on The Concept of Intergenerational Learning for Local Wisdom Transmission: A Systematic Review

Abstract

This study analyzes and synthesizes knowledge from research articles, both in Thailand and abroad, related to teaching models based on the concept of intergenerational learning for local wisdom transmission. A systematic review process consists of 7 steps: 1) Define the topic, 2) Define the objectives, 3) Set selection criteria, 4) Determine the document search methods, 5) Assess quality, 6) Analyze and synthesize knowledge, and 7) Present the results. The selection criteria are as follows: 1) Research articles study teaching models based on the concept of intergenerational learning combined with local wisdom from both in Thailand and abroad databases, 2) Research articles published within the last five years, from 2018 to 2022, and 3) Research articles specifically related to teaching methods based on the concept of intergenerational learning for local wisdom transmission. The screening process based on the specified criteria yielded the following results: 1) Community or non-school organizations are more involved in organizing activities than educational institutions, 2) Activity organization comprises three main components: 2.1 Fostering relationships between children and the elderly, 2.2 Knowledge exchange between children and the elderly, and 2.3 Creating mutual pride, 3) Diverse teaching materials are utilized, and 4) Measurement and evaluation criteria vary depending on the objectives of each project. Based on a systematic literature review, it is recommended to develop activities following the concept of intergenerational learning to transmit local wisdom within educational institutions. In addition to fostering learning and appreciation, There should be activities that foster relationships. There is a space for mutual learning between children and the elderly, aimed at reducing the generational gap between learners and local wisdom keepers, and fostering sustainable development.
