Abstract
Objectives: The purposes of this quasi-experimental research were to compare quality of life of schizophrenic patients before and after receiving recovery oriented program and to compare quality of life of schizophrenic patients who received recovery oriented program and quality of life of those who received regular nursing care.
Methods: Samples were forty in-patient schizophrenic patients who met the inclusion criteria. They were randomly assigned into experimental and control group, 20 subjects in each group. They were matched pair by gender and duration of illness. The experimental group received recovery oriented program, and the control group received regular nursing care. The research instruments consisted of 1) The recovery oriented program, 2) Demographic questionnaire, 3) The WHOQOL–BREF –THAI, and 4) The recovery assessment scale. All instruments were tested for content validity by 5 professional experts. The reliability of the 3rd instruments was reported by Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of .93. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and t-test.
Results: 1) Quality of life of schizophrenic patients after participating in the recovery oriented program was significantly higher than that before, at the .05 level. 2) After the experiment, quality of life of schizophrenic patients who participated in the recovery oriented program was not significantly higher than that of who participated in the regular nursing care, at the .05 level.
