Abstract

Objective: The objective of this integrative review was to study the critical components and outcomes of the case management model for older adults with dementia.

Methods: Original research studies published between 2010 and 2020 were searched by electronic databases. Articles were critically reviewed and extracted using an approach based on the QualSyst tool. From fifty-six relevant articles, six articles selected and analyzed in this integrative review.

Results: The critical components of case management model for older adults with dementia included the assessment, planning, coordination, evaluation, service support, and consulting service. The significant outcomes of the case management were classified into the aspects involving the outcomes of older adults with dementia, the family caregivers, and the care system. Furthermore, this illustrated the positive findings of the case management; such as, the better emotional behavior of older adults with dementia, the decreasing of the burden of the family caregivers, which resulted in the upgraded quality of life and the reduced expenses related to the healthcare system.

Conclusion: The results of the study lacked the clarity of outcomes for case management for older adults with dementia, thus, the additional experimental research should be conducted to determine the effectiveness of the case management in Thailand's context.
