SELECTED FACTORS RELATED TO HAPPINESS OF NURSING LECTURERS

Abstract

               Objective: To study the level of happiness and the relationship between age, income, body mass index (BMI), health care, length of rest, illness, family relationship, relationship with friends, self-esteem, stress, resilience, on the one hand, and happiness, on the other, among nursing lecturers.


               Methods: The researchers collected data with 30 nursing lecturers using power analysis. The instrument was a 5-part questionnaire as follows: 1) General Information 2) Happiness 3) Self-esteem 4) Stress and 5) Resilience. It was tested by 5 experts and got a validity index according to the criteria (CVI=0.86). The researchers checked the confidence of the questionnaire by Alpha Cronbach coefficient which was between 0.74 - 0.94. The statistics used in the research were as follows: frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Correlation coefficient (r), Chi-square correlation test with Phi and Cramer's V.


               Results: The overall level of happiness among nursing lecturers was 72.4 (happy). Education, age, resilience, emotion stability, morale, problem management, and income and family relationship were positively related with happiness significantly at p < .05 (r=.396, .513, .529, .458, .477 and Cramer’s V = .444 and .485 respectively).


               Conclusion: Research results could be applied for happiness promotion for nursing lecturers.
