THE EFFECT OF SATIR MODEL PSYCHOTHERAPY ON DEPRESSION SELF ESTEEM AND CONGRUENCE OF PATIENTS WITH MAJOR DEPRESSIVE DISORDER

Abstract

                Objective: To investigated the effectiveness of Satir model psychotherapy on depressive symptoms, self-esteem and congruence in patients with major depressive disorder.


                Methods: This study was one-group quasi experimental study in patients with depressive disorder who attended the outpatient psychiatric unit of Srinagarind Hospital during October, 2020 to August, 2021. The patients attended the 6 – sessions program, once a week, 60-90 minutes for each session of Satir model psychotherapy. The assessments were done before starting the therapy, at the end of the therapy and at 3 months follow up using Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, Thai Rosenberg Self-esteem Inventory and Congruence Scale. The data were analyzed using generalized estimating equation.


                Results: Twelve female patients were included in this study. The study showed that depression score was decreased from baseline, immediately after intervention and 3 months follow up, from 21.00 to 13.17 and 9.83 (p < 0.001), Self-esteem score was increased from 1.86 to 3.52 and 3.87 (p < 0.001) and congruence score was increased from 67.83 to 119.33 and 125.00, (p < 0.001) respectively.


                Conclusion: The Satir Model psychotherapy was effective in reducing depressive symptoms, increasing self-esteem and level of congruence in depressive patients, which could be considered as an intervention for outpatient service.
