EXPLORATORY FACTORS ANALYSIS OF QUALITY OF LIFE IN ELDERS WITH DEMENTIA

Abstract
Objective: To study the exploratory components quality of life in elderly with dementia.
Methods: The study design was quantitative research. The samples were 270 elderly people diagnosed with dementia according to the ICD-10 criteria (F00 -04) attended the outpatient department of the psychiatric hospital under the Department of Mental Health and its network hospitals. The research instruments were a quality of life which developed by the researcher based on the concept of quality of life of the World Health Organization. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.91. Data were analyzed by elemental analysis with the main component, extraction method Orthogonal component axis rotation by Varimax method.
Results: Quality of Life in Elderly with Dementia: QOL- ED consisted of 6 main components and 25 sub-components. The main components were 1) life satisfaction, 2) psychological well-being, 3) activities of daily living 4) environment of residence 5) social support network, and 6) socioeconomic status. Each component explained the variance of 32.865, 10.885, 5.404, 4.685, 4.222 and 4.117 percent, respectively. The total variance was 62.178 percent. Component 1 (Life satisfaction) had the greatest percentage variance showed that the most affected the quality of life in elderly with dementia.
Conclusion: Quality of life in elderly with dementia associated with cognitive impairment ability to carry out daily activities, including emotions, feelings, and social experiences. It should be used with a specific evasion. It will be a guideline for caregivers and health personnel to provide supportive care. Encourage the elderly with dementia to have a better quality of life.
