FACTORS PREDICTING PERSONAL RECOVERY OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: The objective was to predict factors associated with personal recovery in people with schizophrenia.
Methods: This study was conducted using a predictive correlational design. Data were collected from 221 people living in the community with schizophrenia who received outpatient services in hospitals under the Department of Mental Health in northeast Thailand from May 1 to July 31, 2022. Data were analyzed using Pearson's product-moment correlation and stepwise multiple regression.
Results: The results showed that the factors associated with recovery were social support (r = .501, p < .01), medication adherence (r = .264, p < .01), symptom management (r = .421, p < .01), and hope (r = .534, p < .01). In the regression model, three variables predicted recovery (R2 = .417): social support (R2 change = .285), hope (R2 change = .092), and symptom management (R2 change = .04).
Conclusion: To promote personal recovery in patients with schizophrenia, healthcare personnel should focus on finding ways to provide social support, instill hope, and assist them in managing their psychiatric symptoms. Focusing on these three factors will contribute to the long-term personal recovery of people with schizophrenia in remaining in the community with their families.
