TYPES OF THERAPY PROGRAMS AFFECT TO REDUCE OF DEPRESSION FOR THAI AGEING CITIZEN: META-ANALYSIS

Abstract

               Objective: To synthesize types of therapy programs that affect to reduce of depression for Thai ageing citizen by meta-analysis.


               Methods: Searched from 3 databases: Thai Journal Citation Index (TCI), ASEAN Citation Index (ACI), and Thailand Library Integrated System (ThaiLIS) of 1 July 2022 to 31 October 2022, the selection randomized controlled trial on the treatment of depression in Thai ageing citizen. The excluded studies of depression diagnosed as a feature of a medical condition requiring medication. Only selective interventions aimed at reducing symptoms were accepted for inclusion of study data. Standardized mean differences were calculated in the random type meta-analysis of the influence magnitude analysis.


               Results: The studies were systematically reviewed, meta-analysis. These included from 14 studies, 15 effect sizes. The study was conducted between 1999 and 2020 B.C. with a sample of 299 Thai ageing citizen. The combined effect size from a randomized meta-analysis showed that a treatment program can reduce depression in Thai elderly (g = -2.11, 95% Confident Interval [CI] = [-2.60, -1.61]) and the details are as follows: In the case of each type of treatment program, it was found that alternative therapy (art therapy, music therapy, aromatherapy) (g = -2.10, 95 % CI = [-3.08, -1.12]), cognitive therapy or problem-solving therapy (g = -1.68, 95% CI = [-2.13,  -1.23]), physical therapy and exercise (g = -1.90, 95% CI = [-2.25, -1.56]) and cognitive behavioral therapy (g = -3.13, 95% CI = [-4.50, -1.76]).


               Conclusion: This meta-analysis supportive of choosing to a therapy program to reduce depression in Thai ageing citizen by effective, including: first, cognitive behavioral therapy, after that, alternative therapies (art therapy, music therapy, aromatherapy), moreover, physical therapy and exercise, and finally, cognitive therapy or problem-solving therapy, respectively. For benefit, public health personnel can choose an appropriate form of therapy for the Thai elderly. by single or multiple treatments.
