THE EFFECT OF NURSING CARE AT HOME WITH FAMILY AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION PROGRAM ON BEHAVIORAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SYMTOMS OF DEMENTIA (BPSD) OF THE ELDERLY WITH DEMENTIA IN COMMUNITY

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this research was to compare the behavioral and psychological problems of elderly the with dementia in the community before and after nursing care at home with family and community participation program.
Methods: One group pretest-posttest design. The concept of person- centered care was applied in the care of elderly people with the behavioral and psychological problems of elderly people with dementia in the community. It consisted of 6 steps: 1) providing information about dementia to care givers and public health volunteers; 2) relationship building/Assessment of patient and family conditions 3) nursing planning according to needs and problem conditions 4) knowledge/skill training for rehabilitation 5) environmental management 6) monitoring and evaluation. Data were collected using the Neuropsychiatric Inventory Questionnaire Thai version (NPI-Q Thai). reliability .95. Data were collected with 30 patients aged over 60 years between March - July 2023. Statistics used in data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation and Paired t-test.
Results: The study found that behavioral and psychological problems among elderly people with dementia in the community after receiving the program were less than before. The study result was statistically significant (p-value < .01).
Conclusion: The results of this study show that home nursing programs with family and community involvement. It helps to reduce behavioral and mental problems of the elderly with dementia in the community.
