The Effect of Defensive Driving Technique Training Program on Safety Behavior in Driving and Road Incidents of the Distributing Goods Drivers in Chonburi

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the impact of a defensive driving training program on safety behaviors of drivers transporting goods and road incidents. The study was conducted with a sample group of 30 systematically and randomly selected delivery drivers in Chonburi using the quasi-experimental research design. A questionnaire was employed to measure on knowledge, attitudes and behaviors related to safety driving with reliability coefficients of 0.73, 0.74 and 0.76, respectively. One-way repeated-measures ANOVA and Paired t-test were used to analyze the data collected before the training, after 3 months, and at the 6-month follow-up. The results showed that the safety behaviors in defensive driving were low before the training. After 3 months of the training, safety behaviors significantly increased to a high level and after 6 months of the training, safety behaviors remained at a moderate level. The frequency of road incidents decreased by 78.00 % after 3 months of training and 54.41% after 6 months. In summary, the research demonstrates that the defensive driving training program effectively increased safety behaviors and reduced the frequency of road incidents among the delivery drivers. This research provides valuable insights into the positive effects of defensive driving training programs and can be used the model to train employees to control the behavior of distributing goods drivers be safe and can prevent for road accidents among drivers in factories.
