Factors Affecting Self–care Behaviors of Uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients in Nakhon Ratchasima Province

This study was a cross-sectional analytical study aimed to study Factors Affecting self–care Behaviors of Uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. A total of 444 patients with Uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus. Questionnaires that included personal factors, knowledge about diabetes, Health literacy, and self-care behaviors were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression.
The research results found that the self-care behavior of Uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Overall, it is at a fair level (x ̅=1.85, SD.=0.28). Factors affecting self-care behavior of type 2 diabetes patients with statistical significance at the 0.05 level including medical treatment rights (β = 0.099, p-value = 0.033), knowledge about diabetes (β = 0.179, p-value < 0.001) and health literacy (β = -0.121, p-value = 0.012). All variables together can predict the self-care behavior of patients with type 2 diabetes who could not control their blood sugar levels by 6.8 % (R2 = 0.068). Therefore, relevant agencies in the area can use this as a guideline in planning and activities to promote knowledge about diabetes and enhance health literacy for patients with type 2 diabetes so that patients have correct and appropriate self-care behaviors.
