Development of Health Education and Health Counseling Model Using LINE Official Account Application for Mothers in Caring for Infants with Premature Births

Abstract

The objective of this research and development was to developed an educational and counseling model using LINE official account application for mothers in caring for Infants with premature births. The samples were mothers of preterm infants admitted to the newborn ward and registered nurses working at Udon Thani hospital, both selected according to inclusion criteria. The research was consisted of 4 phases: 1) situational analysis and needs assessment (R1), 2) designing and developing of the model (D1), 3) implementation in real situations (R2), and 4) model evaluation (D2). Research instruments included: 1) the health education and counseling model using LINE official account application for mothers in caring for Infants with premature births with account name: “Karn Dulae Tarok Rag Kerd” (Caring for New Born Babies, in Thai), 2) a questionnaire of mothers’ confidence on model use,
3) a questionnaire of satisfaction on model among mothers, and 4) a questionnaire of satisfaction on model among registered nurses. The data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, and paired sample t-test.

The results showed that 1) the education and counseling model was consisted of 7 videos and infographics that provided information for mothers plus 24-hour consulting supports via chat, 2) mothers’ confidence in caring for premature infants significantly improved after using the model (p<0.001), and 3) mothers’ and registered nurses’ overall satisfactions of the model were at the highest levels (Mean=4.70, S.D=0.47, Mean=4.60, S.D=0.52, respectively).
