Abstract

The purposes of this correlational research were to identify the prevalence of sharp-edged injuries from blunt force trauma among nursing students. Predisposing factors were age and attitude about work safety. Enabling factors were environments that is conducive to practicing safety behavior. Reinforcing factors were stress from supervisory teachers and other workers regarding sharp-edged injuries accident that affects nursing students. There were 248 nursing students included in the total samples. Data were collected using a questionnaire and were analyzed using the descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression.

The results revealed that the sample group had a prevalence of sharp-edged injuries accident at 19.4 percent. Factors that were statistically significant at the 0.05 level related to sharp-edged injuries accident were attitude to work safety (AOR=0.50, 95% CI=0.26-0.96) and environment to work safety behavior in nursing practices (AOR=0.51, 95% CI=0.27-0.98). It was recommended to have information for managing stress among students and creating guidelines for preparing virtual simulation situations to students before the practice session.
