The quasi-experimental research examined the effect of health coaching on persons with type 2 diabetes. Samples were 60 persons with type 2 diabetes in the Bann Kho subdistrict, Mueang district, Nakhon Ratchasima province. The samples were divided into 2 groups of control and experimental groups with 30 persons in each group. Both groups were matched with gender, age, and HbA1C levels. The control group received the usual care, whereas the experimental group received the health coaching. The experimental instrument was the health coaching plan. The data were collected using an HbA1C level record form and health behaviors questionnaires. Percentages, means, standard deviations, and t-test were used to analyze the data.
The results revealed that after receiving the health coaching: 1) the mean HbA1C level of persons with type 2 diabetes was significantly lower than before receiving the health coaching at the significance level of 0.05 (p<0.001), 2) the mean HbA1C level of persons with type 2 diabetes in the experimental group was significantly lower than the control group at the significance level of 0.05 (p<0.001). The findings indicate that the health coaching is effective for decreasing HbA1c level of persons with type 2 diabetes.
