The Development of System for Enhancement of Knowledge about Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) for Patients and Community Health Volunteers in Nong Bua Daeng District, Chaiyaphum Province

Abstract

This action research aimed to develop a knowledge enhancement system about the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) for patients and community health volunteers. The research was conducted in 3 phases: 1) development of the COVID-19 knowledge enhancement system 2) implementation and trial of the system and 3) evaluation and summary of the outcomes. The sample comprised 41 patients and 206 community health volunteers. Data were collected using: 1) personal information questionnaires, 2) COVID-19 knowledge tests, and 3) focus group discussion records. The data were analyzed using  descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was employed to compare knowledge levels with a significance level set at 0.001.

The results showed that both patients and community health volunteers showed significant improvement in knowledge after using the knowledge enhancement system. COVID-19 patients had pre-intervention knowledge score of 12.59, which increased to 18.44 post-intervention (p<0.001). Community health volunteers had pre-intervention knowledge score of 12.53, which increased to 18.50 post-intervention (p<0.001). Participants recommended reviewing COVID-19 knowledge with the public and suggested the development of similar health knowledge systems for other diseases and increased use of technology.
