Abstract

This qualitative research aimed to study the needs of caregivers in providing care for elderly and individuals with dependency in Phoknoi subdistrict, Phanna Nikhom district, Sakon Nakhon province. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 17 individuals, including caregivers of the elderly, elderly care managers, and individuals involved in elderly care activities within the community. Data were collected with in-depth interviews and analyzed using content analysis.

The result revealed that the caregivers had completed a 70-hour training course for elderly care, which is the standard national curriculum set by the Bureau of Elderly Health, Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand. However, the caregivers expressed needs for refresher training to update their knowledge, as well as a desire to learn about new technologies that could enhance their work practices, making them more comprehensive, efficient, and of higher quality.

Therefore, it is recommended that policies for continuous knowledge enhancement and capacity-building training for elderly caregivers and family members should be established, aligned with the evolving health needs of the elderly population.
