Factors Associated with Research Competency of Professional Nurses in General Hospitals, Nakhon Ratchasima Province

This analytical cross-sectional study aimed to examine the levels of research competency, digital literacy, organizational support, and factors associated with research competency among professional nurses in general hospitals in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Samples were comprised of 302 professional nurses with at least one year of work experience. Data were collected using an online questionnaire validated by three experts. The questionnaire consisted of four parts: general information, digital literacy, organizational support, and research competency. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (simple and multiple logistic regressions).
The results revealed that the overall research competency was at a moderate level (67.55%, =97.66, SD=23.87). The majority of nurses had a moderate level of digital literacy (54.97%,
=124.34, SD=24.38), and organizational support was also at a moderate level (60.60%,
=54.69, SD=13.64). Multiple logistic regression analysis, controlling for research presentation experience, identified five factors significantly associated with high research competency (p<0.05): being males (ORAdj=22.69, 95%CI=1.85-277.63), high-level digital understanding (ORAdj=19.39, 95%CI=1.12-13.63), high-level digital creation skills (ORAdj=8.72, 95%CI=3.06-24.67), high-level resource/budget support (ORAdj=6.31, 95%CI=2.10-18.92), and high-level policy and planning support (ORAdj=3.19, 95%CI=1.04-9.77).
These findings can inform strategies to enhance research competency among professional nurses through academic and research promotion, mentorship programs, digital literacy skill development, and clear organizational supports.
