Digital Technology Competencies among Nurse Educators in Nursing Practicum

Nursing instructors and clinical preceptors are essential in preparing nursing students for professional practices and must possess digital technology competencies to keep pace with the evolution of medical technologies. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the digital technology competencies of nurse educators involved in the Bachelor of Nursing Science program. Data were collected from 62 participants, comprising of nursing instructors from government nursing institutions and clinical preceptors from both public and private hospitals in Bangkok, using a structured questionnaire. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics, including frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations, as well as the chi-square test at a significance level of p=0.05. The results indicated that most participants were females (91.94%), with a mean age of 52.57 ± 10.97 years and nursing experience ranging from 1 to 52 years. The majority was nursing educators (79.03%) with five years of experience in clinical supervision (20.97%). Overall, the participants demonstrated good levels of digital technology competencies (69.35%). Factors significantly associated with digital competencies included age and years of experience in clinical supervision. These findings underscore the need to strengthen the digital technology competencies of nurse educators and preceptors to ensure effective clinical training and responsiveness to ongoing technological advancements in nursing education.
