Abstract

This study aimed to examine the level of self-efficacy in caring for patients with aggressive behaviors among healthcare personnel and to identify predictors of self-efficacy, including psychological factors, environmental factors, and situation appraisal. The samples consisted of 100 healthcare personnel. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis.

The results showed that, overall, the participants demonstrated a moderate level of self-efficacy in caring for patients with aggressive behaviors. When considering each dimension, self-efficacy in managing violent situations and ensuring safety had the highest mean score, followed by self-efficacy in assessment, communication, and teamwork, and self-efficacy in self-management and professional decision-making, respectively. Regarding the predictive factors, psychological factors had the highest mean score at a high level, whereas environmental factors and situation appraisal were at a moderate level. Multiple regression analysis revealed that psychological factors, environmental factors, and situation appraisal significantly predicted self-efficacy in caring for patients with aggressive behaviors, accounting for 48.1% of the variance, with no evidence of autocorrelation. Stepwise multiple regression analysis further indicated that situation appraisal was the strongest predictor, followed by environmental factors. Together, these two predictors explained 47.2% of the variance in self-efficacy.

The findings highlight the importance of enhancing situation appraisal skills and aggressive behavior management, along with improving the work environment and strengthening psychological factors among healthcare personnel, in order to effectively promote self-efficacy in caring for patients with aggressive behaviors.
