Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to examine factors related to receiving the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to prevent cervical cancer among female high school students in Ubon Ratchathani Province. The study applied Health Belief Model (HBM) and Social Support as its main theoretical frameworks. Samples consisted of 322 female high school students in Ubon Ratchathani Province, selected through stratified random sampling. A questionnaire was used as the research instrument. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the relationships between variables were examined using chi-square test at a significance level of 0.05.

The results showed that the majority of the female high school students aged between 16 and 17 years and were studying in Grade 10. An assessment of knowledge revealed that the overall knowledge level was at a moderate level, with a mean of 71.7% and a standard deviation (SD) of 14.2. Regarding health beliefs, the overall level was also at a moderate level (equation=3.32, SD=0.105). For social support, the overall level was also at a moderate level (equation=3.43, SD=0.095). The analysis of relationships showed that knowledge and perceived benefits of the cervical cancer vaccine were significantly associated with the decision to receive the vaccine (χ²=19.236, p<0.05). The findings from this study on factors related to receiving the cervical cancer vaccine among female high school students in Ubon Ratchathani Province can be used to develop cervical cancer vaccination services that better meet recipients' needs and can serve as a guideline of benefit to policymakers in considering vaccine service provision for the target population.
