Abstract

Overproduction body odour (bromhidrosis) and axillary sweat are unpleasant for many social group, so the underarm cosmetic products are continuously developed. The major body odour chemicals, tran 3 methyl 2-hexenoic acid and androsterone are caused by the resident skin microflora, the lipophilic diptheroid, in the axillary area. Antimicrobial agents are then added to the previous fragrance deodorants to control the bacterial proliferation. Antiperspirant, aluminium salt is also added in the formula for drying effect. The under arm cosmetics are the most competitive products in the market Many preparations are introduced. The basic knowledge of sweat gland, body odour, deodorant and antiperspirant are included in this article. The interesting revolution of product formulation and packaging are also reviewed.
