Abstract

Ultraviolet in the sunlight induced sunburn, skin pigmentation, premature aging skin, local immunosuppression and skin cancers. Sunscreen products were invented since 1889 to protect the ultraviolet adverse effects. During the last 30 years, many chemicals were developed for ultraviolet B protection, but few for ultraviolet A protection. This article reviews the basic knowledge the effect of solar radiation to the skin and the details of sunscreen chemicals from the beginning to the present time and the forecast side effects in the future.
