Daridorexant เป็นยาลำดับที่ 3 ในกลุ่ม selective dual orexin receptor antagonist ถัดจากยา suvorexant และ lemborexant โดย daridorexant ได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนจากองค์การอาหารและยาของประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาในวันที่ 7 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2565 และจากองค์การยาแห่งสหภาพยุโรปในวันที่ 29 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2565 ให้เป็นยาสำหรับการรักษาโรคนอนไม่หลับในผู้ป่วยที่เริ่มหลับยากหรือไม่สามารถนอนหลับได้นาน ยาออกฤทธิ์โดยไปยับยั้ง orexin A และ orexin B ในการจับกับ orexin type 1 receptor และ orexin type 2 receptor ทำให้สามารถนอนหลับได้ดีขึ้นโดยลดเวลาในการเข้าสู่การหลับและลดการตื่นในช่วงของการนอนหลับ จากการทบทวนวรรณกรรมอย่างเป็นระบบพบว่า ในผู้ป่วยทั้งผู้ใหญ่และผู้สูงอายุสามารถทนต่อยาได้ดีและยามีข้อมูลความปลอดภัยสูง รวมทั้งยายังมีประสิทธิภาพในการช่วยทำให้หลับได้ในผู้ป่วยที่นอนไม่หลับโดยยังคงรักษาโครงสร้างของการนอนได้และไม่ส่งผลกระทบต่อการทำกิจกรรมระหว่างวันในเช้าวันถัดมาหลังจากรับประทานยา จากที่กล่าวมาจึงทำให้ daridorexant มีความแตกต่างจากยานอนหลับกลุ่มอื่นๆ เช่น benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressant และ antihistamines
