Srivilai, S., Pinyopasakul, W., & Charoenkitkarn, V.
The objective of this study was to synthesize knowledge from evidence-based nursing practices and develop nursing practice guideline on aspiration pneumonia prevention in patients with acute stroke. Related literature was searched from published research reports during 2003 to 2012. Results revealed that the nursing practice guideline consisted of screening for risk of aspiration and nursing care including swallowing training, nutrition management, oral hygiene care, and provision of education for patients and families. Nurses have an important role in planning and collaborating with multidisciplinary professionals to provide care for patients in order to gain effective outcomes on patient safety and less expenditure.
