EVALUATION OF LEARNING BASED ON THE PROCESS FOR ENHANCING HEALTH LITERACY ON HIV and STIs (HIV&STIs LITERACY) AMONG MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN ACCORDING TO THE KIRKPATRICK MODEL

Abstract

          The learning evaluation process for enhancing health literacy on HIV & STIs Literacy has used the Kirkpatrick evaluation model. The objective are to evaluate the activity patterns in the HIV and STIs Health Literacy manual among men who have sex with men, and to compare the effects of the changes of the five skills among men who had sex with men before and after participating in a process of enhancing health literacy on HIV and STIs. It is conducted between June and July 2020. The sample consisted of 13 youth men who had sex with men, and 7 participants from relevant target groups such as local vocal teachers, health workers, facilitator team, totally the target group of 20 participants. Data were collected by using the pre- and post-activity assessments, the activity log form, and the interview guidelines. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. The mean difference was analyzed by paired t-test statistics and content analysis. The results provided information in four areas: (1) reaction: concept and attitude (2) learning: building knowledge and important skills such as accessibility skills, understanding skills, questioning skills, decision making skills, and application skills (3) behavior change: behavioral health and (4) results: behavioral changes of the target groups. It was found that there was better improvement and a difference in comparison between pre- and post-learning management following the HIV and STIs Literacy enhancement process. Reaction of the target group’s concept by collecting qualitative data with the activity log form, positive & negative reaction was found that the target group have attitude and acceptance of the process for enhancing health literacy, consisting of 5 learning skills: accessibility, understanding, questioning, decision making and application skills including behavior change. Target behaviors among men who having sex with men have the mean scores of HIV prevention and testing behaviors, and STIs screening before and after learning finding that the target group had an average score of protective behavior higher than before learning statistically significant (p = 0.042). This evaluation model can provide a more comprehensive information and perspective for developing the process in order that men to have sex with men can learn effectively.
