Key medical intervention in treating the patients was to inject gancyclovir into vitreous chamber. The role of nurses in caring patients who will undergo intravitreal chamber injection includes practices before, during and after injection.
In the case report, the patient was 42 years old male who was found to be HIV infected. He visited Bamrasnaradura Infectious Institute to receive treatment in September 2019. His CD4 count was 11 cells/cu.mm., and antiretroviral treatment was initiated at the same month. However, one month later, he
complained of a floater in his left eye field and was diagnosed as cytomegalovirus retinal infection. He was
then treated with ganciclovir intravitreal injection in October 2019. He also received nursing care according
to the nursing practices guidelines, step by step. Treatment as well as nursing care was continued up to February 2020 and his visual acuity was improved. Based on the reviewed knowledge together with the
nursing care provided to the patient, treatment of cytomegalovirus retinal infection in this case was successful. In addition, nursing care had promoted the understanding of the patient to be engaged in the
