PREVALENCE OF NEISSERIA GONORRHEA INFECTION, SEXUAL RISK BEHAVIORS AND CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS AMONG FEMALE PATIENTS WHO DIAGNOSED GONORRHEA ATTENDING SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS CLINIC, BANGKOK

Objectives of this study were to 1) study prevalence of Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection 2) describe sexual risk behaviors, and 3) describe clinical manifestations among female patients who diagnosed gonorrhea attending sexually transmitted infections clinic, Bangkok. We conducted retrospective descriptive study using medical records of female clients who were diagnosed with gonorrhea between 2017 and 2020. Descriptive statistics were employed for data analysis. The finding indicated that (1) The average prevalence of Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection among female patients attending sexually transmitted infections clinic, Bangkok was 0.75. (2) Sexual risk behaviors were demonstrated as follows. The majority (73.79%) had the duration of last sex between 0 to 7 days. The husbands and sexual partners have symptoms (75.73%). No condom use of sexual partners (68.93%). (3) For clinical manifestations, most of female patients reported abnormal symptoms (63.10%) and the most common symptom was yellow discharge (16.50%). And 33% were found with other sexually transmitted diseases and comorbidities. The timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment of gonorrhea among female patients can reduce gonococcal transmission to their partners.
