Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of the protection motivation program on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections. A sample of 68 second-year male vocational students from two vocational colleges in Bangkok Metropolitan was divided into experimental and comparison groups, with 34 participants in each group. The experimental group received the intervention program over eight weeks, consisting of in-class and online activities, while the comparison group followed the regular classroom routine. Data was collected before and after the intervention programs, during the 8th week, using a self-administered questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistics, including Chi-square, Paired samples t-test, and independent t-test were used to analyze the data. The results indicated that following the intervention, the experimental group demonstrated a significantly higher perception of severity and susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections, greater response efficacy towards prevention measures, increased perceived self-efficacy in disease prevention, and a stronger intention to prevent sexually transmitted infections compared to baseline levels and the comparison group (p<0.05). Consequently, integrating the program into the sex education curriculum and extending its application to other at-risk populations such as men who have sex with men, could be beneficial.
