Monkeypox (mpox) has emerged as a global public health issue, with outbreaks spreading from Africa to Europe and North America. On July 23, 2022, the World Health Organization declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern to enhance disease control and protect vulnerable groups. This study examines epidemiological characteristics and proposes guidelines for surveillance. In 2023, Thailand Disease Surveillance System recorded 79 cases, all in males with a median age of 36, primarily in the 30-39 age group, and predominantly homosexual. China reported the highest number of cases. According to Thailand's Department of Disease Control, most patients were Chinese and Myanmar nationals living and working in Thailand, who reported using condoms. The average incubation period was 7 days, with Bangkok recording the highest number of cases. Key surveillance and control measures include adhering to the International Health Regulations for prevention and control, establishing mechanisms for international cooperation in reporting and tracking cases, and sharing patient data. Increasing knowledge about clinical symptoms, transmission, and treatment is essential, as is reducing raise awareness to reduce risky behaviors. Physicians and STI clinics should receive adequated training for rapid diagnosis and treatment to minimize transmission and improve access to healthcare services.
